Identify and Eliminate Time Wasters in Your Organization
Time is the most valuable resource in any organization, and the most wasted. Part of the working time goes into activities without direct value contribution, such as meetings without results, searching for information, or waiting for input. Only measuring shows how large that part is in your organization.
The first step: Make time wasters visible. With a process step recording in LeanShift, you time every step, including waiting time, if you set up the waiting as a step of its own. Across multiple cycles, you spot patterns, what was a one-time event and what systematically costs time.
Muda analysis helps you categorize the causes: waiting (for materials, approvals, information), unnecessary motion (walking, searching), over-processing (doing more than necessary). Each category has its own solution approaches.
Important: Not every time waster can be eliminated immediately. The KATA methodology recommends small steps, tackle one time waster at a time, measure, reflect. This prevents overwhelm and ensures improvements are sustainable.
When manual optimization reaches its limits, automation comes into play. Recurring, rule-based tasks are the best candidates.
